  1. Hi Nicole! Congratulations to RH Blog Land! Thanks for sharing your building process with us. We built a Rome, Elevation C, in Bowie, Maryland! Feel free to visit and join our site. ricknadase.blogspot.com They are currently building the new Rome 05 version. We have the Rome 04. I really wished that we could have had the Rome 05 because I love the basement outline which I plan to do very soon. We had 13 customs added to our home. I love how the Rome allows you to customize it. What is the new layout for the master suite that you described? I think it's the tray ceiling or something else. We have to get the tray ceiling later too because they did not have any options nor the attic which would have been sweet. Ugghh. I need that space.

So happy for your and your family and l love how the kids are joining in the process with the blog. Building a home is too exciting.

It would be great if you can turn off the word verification on your blog. It makes us bloggers decipher this weird word pattern before we can leave a comment. Ughh Thanks a lot.

    CONGRATULATIONS AND HAPPY BUILDING!!

  2. A fellow Marylander...nice to "meet" you Nadase!!!!

I'm not sure that I know the difference between the 04 and 05 version.... My house won't have a basement either. The community that we are building in only has 2 more basement lots--we could have had one of them, but my husband suddenly changed his mind about having a basement which was weird because he had always seemed so adamant about it (man cave). I also didn't get the tray ceiling...I missed the change order deadline and they wouldn't add it on. So my master is just the regular layout with the sitting area. I do have the attic storage space, and I am going to have the double oven kitchen layout which is not a standard upgrade, but is becoming more common. I got a reasonable amount of upgrades, but tried not to go overboard because I was worried that the price might exceed the appraisal value. I tried to keep my "must haves" in line with what would add the most value from an investment perspective, and I also looked at the cost of the upgrade and if it would be better to do it with the builder or on our own later. I really wish I would have gotten the tray ceiling request in on time!! That would have be a good upgrade, I doubt that we could get that done for the same price at a later date.

I visited your site....NICE GARAGE! It's so nice I don't want you to drive in it...lol.

Sorry about the word verification...I'm new to this whole blogging thing so my settings were set at the default settings. I went in and changed it. Let me know if there are any other problems. Thanks.

    1. Oh wow! I am surprised he opted out of the man cave. There were a lot of things my DH was trying to opt out of but I kept them on the list because he was looking at numbers and I was looking at what I knew he really needed and would appreciate once it was completed. Every morning I look up at the ceiling wondering how they could create a tray ceiling with all the stuff in the ceiling. You are so lucky to be getting an attic. It looks awesome on the floor plan which is the new Rome 05 which you are describing for your home. I have the double ovens; however, I had them install them on the empty wall underneath the buck head (custom request). I was on facebook today and found another homeowner building in your community. We have a facebook page for Rome Home Builders. You should join us there too. https://www.facebook.com/groups/RyanHomesRome/
Thanks for taking the word verification off. YAY!

  3. Yes, he is all about the numbers...I fought him on the basement for a little while because it was what we had always talked about, but he insisted that he'd rather be on the cul-de-sac (crawl space only) so I gave in. I even tried to get him to consider the attic addition which would consist of an additional bed and bathroom but would cost much less than the basement, but again he argued that he neither needed nor wanted it. ( I think he knew that I'd probably end up taking over his "man cave" and making it into another family space which would defeat the whole purpose...lol).

I tried to get my double oven put on that empty wall under the bulk head, and I even sent them a picture of some who had theirs put there, but they told me NO. I wanted it on the other wall because I think it's a better use of the space. Putting it next to the refrigerator makes the homeowner lose counter space which is one of the reasons I canceled my backsplash. I felt like I was getting less because of the double oven, but paying the same as if I didn't have the double oven. Since they aren't going to be using the same amount of tile I think the price should be different, and since it's not I opted to wait and have the backsplash done on my own.

I would love to see what the other homeowner in my community has to say. I put in my Facebook request so hopefully it will be accepted very soon.
